A filmmaker spends a year in a men’s maximum security prison documenting a group of inmates who staff their own hospice. In the process, she uncovers some truths that challenge her understanding of redemption and learns that forgiveness may only be achieved in direct proportion to the extent to which we see ourselves.

Molly Fowler is an award-winning producer, director and writer for television, film and theatre, specializing in documentary (long and short form) scripted serial drama and international production. Ms. Fowler has divided her professional work between drama and journalism.  She began her career at the Yale School of Drama, apprenticed at Actors Theatre of Louisville, has directed and/or produced plays on and Off-Broadway and in the West End in London, was the Literary Manager for Manhattan Theatre Club and the Kenyon Festival Theatre. She worked in feature film developing material for 3 major studios as well as for Dustin Hoffman’s Punch Productions. She was a dramaturg and director at the Sundance Institute for 3 summers. After transitioning to TV she studio produced for Phil Donahue and was a booker for Diane Sawyer, as an off-air reporter for ABC News.  For 7 years, she was a development and programming executive for ABC Entertainment.

She left ABC to Senior/Series Produce three two-hour documentary specials for the Discovery Networks International and The New York Times. Her documentary work has been seen on National Geographic, A&E, Lifetime, Voom, and two of her feature docs were developed at the Tribeca Institute’ All-Access program. She has been a show runner/series producer of two reality shows: for TLC and for E, and a newsmagazine for ABC and OWN called “Beyond Belief on OWN” hosted by Wes Moore.

She was the Co-Exec with Wes Moore of the critically acclaimed ‘Coming Back with Wes Moore’ for PBS, is currently working on two documentaries, one about the painter Edwin Cohen and the other about the healthcare conundrum.

She lived in a men’s maximum security prison to make “Serving Life” for Oprah’s Doc Club which she Executive Produced with Forest Whitaker and which earned among others, Christopher and Humanitas Awards.
