GERTRUDE AND A COMPANION - Submitted by Katrin Hilbe
November 30, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

The play begins just after the death of Gertrude Stein in 1946. Her ghost returns to Alice B. Toklas and GERTRUDE AND A COMPANION goes back and forth in time to explore the extraordinary relationship between these lifelong partners. They rejected conservative values and found refuge in Stein’s salon, which drew artistic geniuses such as Hemingway, Picasso, Matisse, Cézanne, Klee and F. Scott Fitzgerald among many other artists, writers and poets. The salon became known as the ‘Mecca for the modern-minded.’ The mystique of the ‘lost generation’ in Paris (a term coined by Stein) serves as a colorful backdrop to this tender and unconventional love story.
