TRIFLES by Susan Glaspell
TALES OF A MIDWESTERN MURDER adapted by Tricia McDermott from the reporting of Susan Glaspell
Directed by Tricia McDermott
Dramaturgy by Elizabeth Bojsza
Featuring: Michael Boland*, Steve Hauck*, Kathryn Layng*, Roya Shanks*, Taylor Valentine*, with April Lavelle*

Two tales of the “murder of the century” both told by the same woman, first as the lone female reporter covering it in 1901, then again fifteen years later. Trifles, one of the earliest US plays examining domestic violence, shows that, then and now, these stories need to be told.

Hear the Tales of a Midwestern Murder unfold, and feel the intensity that moved one writer and a nation. A  lonely farm wife and her family battle for their lives and their place in their community. This unique adaptation from Susan Glaspell’s reporting of the sensational Hossack murder and trial brings to life the events that led Glaspell to create TRIFLES.

1916. A husband. A wife. A murder.  Who killed John Wright? Was it a stranger in the night, or was it his diminutive wife, Minnie? And if she did, why when John was a good man? Women just don’t kill their men. But behind closed doors, the clues tell a tale of a different life. One worth keeping or is this just so many trifles.
