ON HER SHOULDERS
PERFORMANCE AND READING SERIES
Women have been writing plays for a thousand years, how many can you name?
On Her Shoulders presents Anna Cora Mowatt’s “Fashion”
on June 17th at 8PM, in the Lang Student Center, at the New School for Drama,
55 West 13th Street.
Admission is free and seats are available on a first come, first serve basis.
Under the guidance of playwright Andrea Lepcio, and performer Lillian Rodriguez, On Her Shoulders seeks to inform and reward the public with readings and performances of the works different female playwrights throughout history, giving attention to these artists whose voices are too infrequently heard.
The organization offers monthly readings, lead by dynamic and diverse theatre directors. Artists, educators, producers, students and the interested public will be invited to gather monthly to hear one of the stage-worthy plays read by a team of professional actors. Each reading includes either an introduction or post-performance discussion by a scholar or biographer, who is an expert on the author and period. This Play In Context, which includes introductions by scholars and dramaturgs and post-show discussion, will be sponsored in part by the League of Professional Theatre Women, a not-for profit organization promoting visibility and increasing opportunities for women in theatre since 1982. www.theatrewomen.org
Scripts are edited for contemporary production by experienced dramaturgs and playwrights.
