SUMMARY:PLACES At Dixon Place Mainstage
DESCRIPTION:Following a sold out run at 59E59 and Edinburgh Fringe\, Dixon Place presents Places\, a multimedia solo show about one of Broadway's biggest stars\, silent film legend and trailblazing lesbian iconoclast\, Alla Nazimova\, written and performed by Romy Nordlinger (Places\, 59East59/Edinburgh Fringe). Cailín Heffernan directs. Fellow LPTW member Elizabeth Strauss Stage Manages. The performance will be part of Dixon Place's Mainstage Curated Series\, 161A Chrystie Street in NYC on Tuesday\, February 26\, 2019 at 7:30pm.\n\nLong before Madonna\, the world was Gaga for Nazimova. Places\, a critically acclaimed theatrical multimedia solo show\, tells the story of Alla Nazimova\, the forgotten lesbian trailblazer\, iconoclast and perhaps the greatest star you’ve never heard of. Escaping anti-semitic Tsarist Russia\, she became Broadway’s biggest star with the Shubert’s naming a theater after her. Nazimova also became Hollywood’s highest paid silent screen icon and the film industry’s first female director and producer. Defying the moral and artistic codes of her time\, she was forced into obscurity. Returning from the grave\, Nazimova raises her voice\, reclaiming our collective history\, lighting the way to diversity. “By opening our eyes to the past\, we are better able to see our present.”\n\nPlaces was partially developed in productions of 'Stage Struck' helmed by Mari Lyn Henry and the Society For The Preservation Of Theatrical History committed to preserving the legacy of legendary actresses.\n\nGeneral admission tickets are $15 in advance\, $18 at the door. Students\, seniors\, and idNYC tickets are $12 in advance\, $15 at the door.\nwww.placestheplay.com
