SUMMARY:PASSAGEWAYS: Songs of Connection\, Abnormal and Sublime
DESCRIPTION:Passageways: Songs of Connection\, Abnormal and Sublime utilizes song\, story\, art\, and humor to explore the physical and emotional repairs on the path to recovery from a decade of trauma\, including sexual abuse by a trusted mentor\, rapidly succeeded by a gastrectomy\, coma\, organ failure\, six years unable to eat or drink a drop of fluid\, 28 reconstructive surgeries\, and the accompanying PTSD. This archetypal hero’s journey incorporates paintings and original music as the songwriter continues to discover how one redefines “home” after trauma. She recreates herself through discoveries in song and art\, and is able to reclaim her voice and find her place in the world. A compelling and uplifting journey through reimagining – and literally re-membering – the idea of “home.”\n\nMainstage at HERE Arts Center\n\nPerformed\, Written\, Composed\, and Artwork Created by Amy Oestreicher\nMUSICALLY ARRANGED AND MUSICAL DIRECTION: Bob Goldstone\n\nDIRECTED by Shellen Lubin\n\nVIDEO PRODUCTION DESIGN by Shannon Epstein\n\nA young woman discovers that when trauma passes\, a darkness\, embodied as PTSD\, begins a call to adventure Exploring her surroundings\, both natural and constructed\, she reassembles peace in a world constantly transitioning through seasons and environmental circumstances\, Nature offers her a gift\, lessons learned from trauma and gifts to be reaped through art\, music\, spoken word\, movement inspired by the changing world around us. Forming a bold\, new identity in spite of relentless adversity\, she discovers that\, “home” cannot be re-found\, but re-imagined and liberated through nature\, art\, and the stories that unite us all.\n\nPassageways is a play on the search for home. As we embark on new experiences\, we maintain that sense of home\, until trauma creates another world – a vortex which dislocates our sense of security. In this passageway\, there is no way out or in\, just through. Re-membering trust is a journey we must take as artists to reimagine our identity\, building a beautiful mosaic in order to reconstruct a life. In taking those shattered pieces of the trusted life we once knew\, we create resilient new worlds. Although initially frightening\, the journey proves empowering. We make our own meaning\, myth and symbols to become the heroes of our own story.\n\nAugust 6\, 7 and 8th at 8:30pm\n\nCome see the show on the HERE mainstage this August!\nApproximate running time: 75 minutes\nTickets are $20\n\nThe performance will be followed by an artist talkback/Q & A on transforming trauma into creative growth and creating the musical work\, as well as a book signing to celebrate the launch of Amy's memoir\, My Beautiful Detour: An Unthinkable Journey from Gutless to Grateful\n\nHERE\n145 6th Ave.\n(Enter on Dominick\, 1 Block South of Spring)\n\nFor Tickets & Information: visit here.org or\ncall 212-352-3101\nhttps://here.org/shows/passageways/\n\nThis production is a part of SubletSeries@HERE: Co-op\, HERE's curated summer rental program\, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment\, as well as technical support.
