DESCRIPTION:\nOral History with Kia Corthron\nEvent Date: Monday\, March 4\, 2013 - 6:00pm - 8:00pm\n\n\n\n\nVenue: Bruno Walter Auditorium of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts - 65th Street & Amsterdam Avenue\n\n\nWe are delighted to report that playwright KIA CORTHRON will be interviewed by TODD LONDON\, the Artistic Director of New Dramatists for our next Oral History interview.\n\nABOUT KIA CORTHRON:\n\nKIA CORTHRON's plays\, including A Cool Dip in the Barren Saharan Crick\, Light Raise the Roof\, and Breath\, Boom\, have been produced by Playwrights Horizons\, The Play Company\, Culture Project\, EST Marathon\, ATL Humana\, New York Theatre Workshop\, Minneapolis’ Children’s Theatre\, Mark Taper Forum\, Alabama Shakespeare Festival\, London's Royal Court Theatre\, Yale Rep\, Huntington Theatre\, Atlantic Theater Company\, New York Stage and Film\, Baltimore's CenterStage\, London's Donmar Warehouse\, Goodman Theatre\, Manhattan Theatre Club\, Hartford Stage\, Delaware Theatre Company\, American Place Theatre\, Long Wharf Theatre and elsewhere. Awards include Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Residency (Italy)\, Dora Maar Residency (France)\, MacDowell Colony\, Siena Arts Institute Visiting Artist (Italy)\, McKnight National Residency\, Wachtmeister Award\, Columbia College/Goodman Theatre Fellowship\, MacLean Foundation Award\, AT&T OnStage Award\, Daryl Roth Creative Spirit Award\, Fadiman Award\, NEA/TCG\, Kennedy Center Fund\, New Professional Theatre Award\, Callaway Award. She serves on the Council of the Dramatists Guild\, is a New Dramatists alumnus\, and a recipient of the LPTW Lee Reynolds Award.\n\nABOUT TODD LONDON:\n\nTodd London is in his 17th season as artistic director of New Dramatists\, the nation’s oldest center for the support and development of playwrights. In 2009 Todd became the first recipient of Theatre Communications Group’s (TCG) Visionary Leadership Award for “an individual who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to advance the theatre field as a whole\, nationally and/or internationally.” He’s the author of Outrageous Fortune: The Life and Times of the New American Play (with Ben Pesner)\, The Artistic Home\, and The World’s Room\, a novel. Two new books\, An Ideal Theatre\, an anthology of founding visions for American theatres (TCG)\, and a collection of Todd’s theatre essays\, The Importance of Staying Earnest (NoPassport Press)\, will be published this spring. “A Lover’s Guide to American Playwrights\,” his tributes to contemporary playwrights\, appears on howlround.com. He has won the prestigious George Jean Nathan Award for Dramatic Criticism for his essays in American Theatre and a Milestone Award for his novel. Under his leadership\, New Dramatists received a special Tony® Honor and the Obie’s Ross Wetzsteon Award. Todd currently serves on the faculty of Yale School of Drama.\n\nWomen Stage the World: Advocating for Gender Parity\nThe new sub-committee of the Advocacy team\, Women Stage the World\, made its third appearance on Monday\, March 4th. Aphra Behn\, Dorothy Parker\,  Rachel Crothers\, Lady Gregory\, Clara Morris\, Dorothy Fields and Katharine Cornell were among the notable theatre foremothers who greeted the audience and mingled with League members who attended the  Wine and Cheese gathering following Todd London's Oral History interview of Kia  Corthron.
